Wizard of Oz Museum History · Chapter 5 · Stories 21–25
From rare books to immersive environments, the Wizard of Oz Museum developed into a place where visitors can explore the history and imagination of Oz through different kinds of experiences.
Beyond the Collection
My journey with Oz began as a personal interest in its literary history. I researched rare editions, studied early illustrations, and built a collection of books and memorabilia.
When Palina encouraged me to create the Wizard of Oz Museum, the challenge changed. It was no longer only about preserving important objects. We also needed to think about how visitors would connect with them.
This chapter explores that part of the museum's development: bringing the imaginative world of Oz to life, using immersive technology, connecting generations, and creating meaningful experiences for visitors.

I first encountered Oz as a child in the Soviet Union. Rediscovering Baum's stories years later through my children led to collecting, research, and eventually the museum.
That personal journey showed me how one story can remain meaningful across many years.
My hope is that the museum offers visitors their own opportunities for discovery, whether through an original book, a historical illustration, or an immersive experience shared with family.
The collection preserves the history of Oz. The museum experience helps share that history with new generations.
